having been an architect in training now for over 10 years it sometimes astonishes me that im only now learning how to build things. i dont mean that in the very literal sense – nor do i mean that ive been completely ignorant til now. essentially the 10 years have been filled with academia and masterplanning and urban design which never really gets down to nitty gritty of ’stuff’.
today i have been trying so very hard to fulfil our concept of a wafer thin flat metal roof within the confines of both physical reality of building materials and also the limits of my knowledge. the consequence of this is that it is neither flat nor wafer thin.
it is at least metal.
the outcome for me personally is that ultimately i can go back to the concept stage of work which i really enjoy armed with some semblance of an idea of how that concept may be achieved. ’til now a wall has been two or three lines on a piece of paper. i will shortly beable to identfy 10 more lines within those two.
